UPDATE & PROGRESS REPORT
MDE Accreditation “YES”
• The MAISA Programs and Services Committee was asked to lead the development of the indicators for the 11 MDE (non-MEAP) accreditation indicators. Many ISDs agreed to assist with this development. Kent ISD and St. Joseph ISD agreed to take the lead in the development. This work was sponsored and funded by MDE over the summer and fall of 2002. The indicators were put in place in December 2002. The input was completed and the reports are currently available on the website. The indicators will form 1/3rd of the proposed rating system for the MDE Accreditation “YES!” system.
• The Programs and Services Committee monitored the development of the scoring system for Education “YES!”
• The committee developed a resolution that was adopted by the MAISA Council to support MDE in meeting the challenge of Education “YES!” and NCLB.
• The Programs and Services Committee developed a list of state mandates required programs and reports that were recommended for elimination, suspension or delay due to state budget problems. This modified list was adopted by MAISA Council.
NCLB
• The Programs and Services Committee developed a recommendation for MAISA Council action at the annual June meeting regarding the role of ISDs in providing support for “priority schools.”
• The Programs and Services Committee met with representatives from MDE and provided the membership with updates on the State of Michigan response to NCLB mandates throughout the year in cooperation with the Michigan Public Relations Association including providing leadership on the development of the AYP Communication Tool Kit that is available on the MAISA website.
