Supt. for Business Services The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD) serves 11 local school districts covering 742 square miles. Public school membership for 2002-03 totals 46,135. Non-public membership totals approximately 9,079 students. The OAISD operates six services facilities: 1) the Educational Services Building has consultants and specialists available for general education (including REMC7), special education and vocational education; 2) Sheldon Pines School serves children diagnosed as trainable mentally impaired; 3) the Ottawa Area Center serves children diagnosed as trainable mentally impaired, severely mentally impaired and severely multiply impaired, and also offers Community Based Instruction programs for young adult trainable mentally impaired students; 4) the Careerline Tech Center offers vocational/technical education to high school and adult students in over 30 programs; 5) the Patrick A. Thompson M-TEC provides post-secondary technical training, in partnership with Grand Rapids Community College, focusing on meeting the needs of adult learners, businesses and the community; and 6) the Outdoor Discovery Center, in partnership with Wildlife Unlimited, has developed an educational plan to create a world-class learning center for the general public, students, families, and area organizations.
