Oxley, Director of Career & Learning Services The Jackson County Intermediate School District works to provide the best possible leadership and services within the framework of local, state and federal law in an efficient, effective manner and assists public and private schools in implementing programs for the development of each individual’s fullest potential. Its more than 400 employees provide varied educational services to local educators who serve more than 28,000 students in 12 public school districts, two charter schools as well as 12 non-public schools. The ISD provides direct and support services to students with special needs and operates the Torrant Center and Kit Young Center for moderately to severely impaired students. It also operates the Jackson Area Career Center where students from the 16 high schools in Jackson County, as well as a number of schools from Hillsdale County, can enroll in career and technical education classes. In addition, the ISD maintains a math/science center utilized by teachers and their students that is located on the grounds of Camp McGregor, an outdoor educational facility that is available for use by schools and the community. The JCISD provides assistance to local school districts through consultant services in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment; early childhood education; gifted & talented; cooperative learning; health education; attendance services; career prep; and professional development and workshop activities. A countywide fiber optic network is maintained and coordinated by the ISD, allowing numerous educational opportunities in the county. REMC 15 offers a wide variety of services to staff and administration to support the education of over 37,000 K-12 children in Jackson and Hillsdale Intermediate School Districts. Among those services are access to thousands of videotapes, computer training, a teacher resource area, copy center, distance learning center, and technology support. Public school
