Gratiot-Isabella Regional Education Service District (GIRESD), established in 1963, located in Ithaca, serves nine school districts and two charter schools in two counties. In 2001-02 over 15,000 K-12 memberships and 1,143 non-public school students were served. The counties of Gratiot and Isabella are basically rural in nature and are centrally located in Michigan’s lower peninsula. GIRESD offers data processing services, health education support, career preparation, business/industry/education coordination, media, technology, instruction, general education services, special education services and career-technical education. Other GIRESD facilities include Winding Brook Conference Centre which offers a relaxed and educational setting for business meetings, luncheons/dinners, organizational retreats, workshops and classroom instruction and the Gratiot Technical Education Center which is designated as a Michigan Works! Service Center.
